Horne plans to ban cell phones in classrooms across Arizona

SUSD already has a ban in place

Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne’s call for banning cell phones at schools across the state is too late to affect the Scottsdale Unified School District.

The district banned all cell phone use on school campuses during the 2023-2024 school year.

“It’s actually included in the student code of conduct,” Scottsdale Unified School District spokeswoman Kristine Harrington said. “Across the district we have what’s called ‘Away for the Day.’ Your cellphone needs to be turned off and kept in your backpack unless for some reason it was teacher who directed you to pull it out.”
