Horizon Park grass converted in city’s effort to save water

In support of Scottsdale’s water conservation efforts, the Parks and Recreation Department recently finished converting three areas in Horizon Park from grass to a xeriscape landscape, which is a combination of granite and drought-tolerant desert plants and trees.

This new landscape will save about 695,000 gallons of water annually, according to Michael Snyder, irrigation systems supervisor for the city of Scottsdale.

The project at the park, 15380 N. 100th St., started in early November and took six to seven weeks to complete, with clearing, leveling and landscaping the area.
