During the course of nearly two years, the Asante Trails Planned Area Development flipped from another residential-heavy development in northern Surprise to a commercial project designed to serve area residents cut off from the rest of the city.
District 1 Councilmember Nick Haney, Surprise Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic and Community Development Director Lloyd Abrams received kudos for reshaping the usage of this 101-acre project at the southwest corner of 163r Avenue and Pat Tillman Boulevard in Asante.
But the interest of Honor Health in building a medical center there proved to be the catalyst for change.
