Homeward Bound brings on Arizona Gives Day with brown bag movement

Posted

Homeward Bound, a Phoenix-based nonprofit dedicated to serving families experiencing homelessness, is participating in this year’s Arizona Gives Day April 5-6 in the best possible way.

Teens on Homeward Bound campus are coming together to help raise $15,000 in 24 hours by participating in a “brown bag movement,” which began March 29.

Each teen will be given 15 minutes to make as many brown bag lunches as they can to get a total of 150 bags all together. These bags will then be delivered to individuals facing homelessness in the Phoenix area to promote their new prevention expansion services to the entire Valley.

With the brown bag movement, Homeward Bound families living on campus are lifting one another and our community as part of the new Valley-wide homeless prevention initiative, according to a press release.

In September 2021 Homeward Bound launched a prevention program to reach more individuals facing homelessness. This program includes rent and utility financial assistance, workforce development, money management and personal safety resources and services. Homeward Bound serves families with children on their main campus, but by implementing this program they are able to help families and individuals around the valley who are on the brink of homelessness stay in their homes.

Homeward Bound’s programming also includes services for adults such as shelter, workforce development training, sobriety support and emergency food pantries, youth services including homework help and intramural sports, homeless prevention services and an emergency housing program.

By supporting Homeward Bound during Arizona Gives Day, the community is making an impact on not only the families on Homeward Bound’s campus, but preventing individuals and families across the Valley from losing their homes and helping them stay on track into keeping their homes.
