Homelessness on the rise in Scottsdale

Council member calls the relatively low number over all ‘pretty amazing’

While the number of unsheltered people experiencing homelessness appears to be declining across the Valley, according to one key indicator, it is going up in Scottsdale.

The Maricopa Association of Governments released this week its annual point in time count of people sleeping on the streets on one given night, Jan. 22 this year. The news was good and bad for Scottsdale.
Volunteer crews counted 9,435 people experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County that night. Overall, that’s a 2% decrease from 2023’s count.
