Mountain Ridge girls basketball went 32-2 in the 2006-07 season, reaching the state 5A-I semifinals before losing to Mesa Mountain View.
Since that season, no girls basketball team at the North Glendale school has won more than 19 games. As of Jan. 20, the 2021-22 Mountain Lions sported a 17-1 record and were on pace to smash the 20-win barrier.
While the team figured to improve from 6-8 in the abbreviated 2021 season, nothing suggested such a comprehensive improvement in coach Jaime Carreon’s fifth season. Seven players were on the 15-13 team two seasons ago, and only senior wing Kylie Dennis played on the 13-13 squad from 2018-19.
