Holocaust survivor to speak in Surprise

A rare and historic evening with Holocaust survivor Esther Basch “The Honey Girl of Auschwitz” begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20 in the Kiva Ballroom in the Sonoran Plaza in The Grand, 19789 N. Remington Drive, Surprise,
Hear the first-hand account of Basch, who survived the Holocaust as a teenager. Basch, a 94-year-old resident of Prescott, survived the Auschwitz Death Camps after being sent there in a cattle car on her 16th birthday.
In April 1945, toward the end of the war, she was led on a death march; along with other women to the Salzwedel Concentration Camp. But she and others were liberated by American soldiers only three days later.
In commemoration of the Holocaust Remembrance Day on April 18, Chabad of the West Valley invites the community to an evening of education and inspiration.
Basch will share her story of survival with a question and answer session to follow. A meet and greet will proceed the presentation.
“It’s an honor for us to host Esther and we’re so fortunate that she has agreed to come to Surprise in person to share her riveting story,” said Rabbi Sholom Lew of Chabad.
