This year’s primary elections have been moved up two weeks from the first Tuesday in August to the third Tuesday in July.
On Friday, Gov. Katie Hobbs signed an emergency bipartisan bill that now places the primary election on July 21. It was originally set for Aug. 4.
“The move was needed to allow elections officials more time to conduct elections preparations for the general election, including ensuring that military and overseas voters have their ballots in time to participate,” according to a press release from the Maricopa County Elections Department.
