Hit-and-run kills pedestrian in Phoenix, suspect in crash hospitalized

A two-car collision early Sunday morning ended with a pedestrian dead and both drivers suffering serious injuries in the crash near 2600 North 43rd Avenue, police said.

The crash, which occurred about 6:20 a.m. June 28, involved a Toyota Camry and BMW. Police arrived and found the 60-year-old woman driving the Camry had serious injuries. She was taken to a hospital.

Officers learned that the driver of the BMW fled the scene after the crash and then hit a pedestrian before crashing into a fence. The pedestrian, a 40-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital where she died, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
