Hikers who don’t heed advice should face consequences

Gilbert reader responds to Question of the Week

OPINION — The “stupid hiker law” or similar is something that’s been very much needed here in Arizona, for a long time. There’s been too many tragedies over the years with people hiking in hot weather that could have been avoided if people had just listened and heeded good advice.

Unfortunately, it takes a law for many people to do the right thing.

Many hikers continue and will continue to hike, in spite of the real heat dangers and potentially bring great harm to themselves and first responders, until there are changes and they are givensome real consequences.
