High rainfall brings West Nile virus cases to Phoenix

COVID-19 isn’t the only virus making its way through Maricopa County at the moment.

The West Nile virus, a disease carried by some mosquitoes, is on the rise in the Valley, thanks to record high rainfall.  According to data from the Arizona Department of Health Services, there have been 173 confirmed or probable cases of West Nile virus in Arizona so far in 2021 across all 15 of its counties, though 144 were found in Maricopa County as of Monday.
