Hidden heroes: Three extraordinary women of color who changed the course of history through espionage

OPINION — When we think of spies, we often imagine fictional characters equipped with high tech gadgets, disguises and daring escapes. Yet some of history’s most remarkable intelligence agents were real women of color whose courage, intelligence and determination helped shape the outcome of major wars.

Working in silence and often at great personal risk, they gathered priceless information, crossed dangerous enemy lines and proved that heroism comes in many forms. Their stories remind us that history is not only made on the battlefield but also written by those brave enough to work behind the scenes.
