Here’s what goes into a Deer Valley Unified recall effort

Residents considering action that would require 23,000+ signatures

Residents — and at least one fellow sitting governing board member — are considering initiating a recall effort to unseat Kim Fisher of the Deer Valley Unified School District.

Fisher two weeks ago sparked local and national outrage when, during a contentious conversation in an open meeting, she did a Nazi salute and said “heil heil.” On Tuesday of this week, in the governing board’s first meeting since, Fisher offered a five-minute explanation that did little to quell the public’s outcry.

Residents picketed outside the meeting Tuesday night demanding Fisher resign as did a group of nearly 20 public speakers during the meeting, including members of the local Jewish community. A fellow board member, Steve Bottfeld, is Jewish.
