NEW LAW

Here’s how many cellphone discipline violations occur in Deer Valley Unified

Governor signs new law requiring districts to ‘limit the use’ of devices during school day

Gov. Katie Hobbs on Monday signed House Bill 2484, requiring school districts and charter schools to “limit the use of wireless communication devices by students during the school day,” something Deer Valley Unified School District has been moving toward for some time.

The new legislation, which passed with bipartisan support, requires public school districts and charter schools to adopt policies limiting student access to social media and wireless devices — while preserving reasonable access for emergencies, medical needs, and educational use.

Under House Bill 2484 schools must enforce commonsense policies governing student access to the internet, restrict access to social media platforms, and limit cellphone use during the school day.
