Queen Creek Unified uses tech to watch students on the bus

App allows parents of children attending QCUSD schools to track their kids’ bus

In Queen Creek, when the wheels on a school bus go round-and-round, students’ parents can see them in real time.

Maybe not the wheels themselves, but they can see the location of their child’s school bus and check whether it’s on schedule. Those are just a few of the things the Here Comes the Bus app can do.

“There were a lot of concerns about timely communication to parents whenever there would be hiccups on routes, service interruptions, delays and whatnot,” said Peggie Overton, director of transportation for the Queen Creek Unified School District. “I thought it would just be awesome if parents could track their kids, see the bus approaching their stop, leaving their stop, knowing the children are actually getting to school, getting on and off the bus. I think that's vital, especially for working parents.”
