Herberger play captures fictional meeting between MLK, Malcolm X

Themes in ‘Reverend King & Minister X’ plenty relevant today

A fictional meeting between Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X is the basis for a new production on stage now in Phoenix.

“Reverend King & Minister X,” written and directed by Valley playwright and actress Larissa Brewington, is the latest in the Lunch Time Theater series on the Kax Stage, inside Herberger Theater Center, at 222 E. Monroe St., in Phoenix. Matinee shows continue at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, Wednesday, Feb. 9, and Thursday, Feb. 10.

Both men famously fought against inequality in their own way. Malcolm X was the charismatic national spokesman for the Nation of Islam, and King led the U.S. civil rights movement of the 1960s.
