Henry C. Wick III, 96Henry C. Wick III, of Paradise Valley, passed away April 28. He was 96.He was the president and director of Judson School, an independent college preparatory school based in Paradise Valley.He helped incorporate Paradise Valley by providing the extra acres needed for the town, and helped name the roads.Mr. Wick was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 10, 1911, the oldest son of a prominent family, successful in the banking and steel businesses.He fulfilled his own dreams after graduation from Yale in 1934, and traveled west to teach.He came to Judson School in 1938, at which time the population of Scottsdale was 400 and the population of Judson was 40 boys.When George Judson retired, Mr. Wick took over the school. His was one of the first schools to accept girls.Mr. Wick was well-known for his kindness, patience and understanding; he and his wife Barbara lived on campus with a sign on the door that read: "Welcome, Come In! Please Do Not Knock."He served his country in WWII, earning the Purple Heart and serving on the first Phoenix Symphony Board.Mr. Wick is survived by his wife, Barbara Wick and 12 children: Alexander Henry Wick, Alyssa Wick-Thomas and Ginny Wick-Verhamme, Heather, Brooke and Craig Hart, Consie Stobs, Hank Wick IV, Kent Wick, Susan Schultz and Richard F. Fried.Grandchildren include Ryan Hart, Jared Wick, Henry C. Wick V, Kyle Wick, Wendy and Tallie Stobs, Paula Fried and two newcomers, Skylar Wick-Verhamme and Farrah Lake Thomas.As one mourner wrote, Mr. Wick was "a dazzling star that will shine on forever."A memorial service for Mr. Wick will be held 4 p.m. May 12 at St. Barnabas on the Desert, 6715 N. Mockingbird Lane.
