Help stop the spread of harmful invasive species at Lake Pleasant

National Invasive Species Awareness Week runs through March 3

As high season for Lake Pleasant approaches, Arizona Game and Fish officials are warning boat owners and recreationists that quagga mussels, an invasive species, can cause millions of dollars in damage to boat motors, docks and water intake systems.

Quagga mussels are an invasive species found in Lake Pleasant and several other Arizona waters, said Kate Dukette, aquatic invasive species coordinator for the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

“Boaters and anglers should remember to clean, drain and dry your boat, and leave the drain plug out, before moving to another water. This helps prevent their spread to other waters not yet infested. It’s not just a good practice, it’s the law,” she said.
