Help sought to mark Apache Junction’s centennial in 2022

Sponsors are needed to fund and volunteers to plan a two-day celebration at the beginning of 2022 and promote a year of events marking the 100th anniversary of the naming of the city of Apache Junction.

Apache Junction was founded by George Curtis and was settled in 1922. He built a general store and opened Arizona’s first zoo.

Prior to Mr. Curtis naming the area Apache Junction, it was known as “Youngsberg,” starting with a Phoenix mayor’s last name; George U. Young, who had a nearby mine.
