Hello, again, Liam and Olivia; no change atop 2023 Arizona baby names list

Posted

Arizona parents have their favorite baby names, and they are not about to change.

For four consecutive years, Olivia and Liam have been the choice of the state’s moms and dads.

And Liam has now topped the list for a decade, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.

The top 10 names for babies have remained fairly consistent for the past few years, DHS reported.

In 2023, the top 10 names chosen for baby girls included: Olivia (361 times), Isabella (274), Emma (271), Mia (271), Camila (265), Sophia (261), Amelia (244), Charlotte (236), Evelyn (197) and Luna (194).

Among boys, following Liam (428) are Mateo (423), Noah (365), Oliver (289), Santiago (270), Elijah (254), Sebastian (251), Ezra (233), Levi (228) and Benjamin (224).

The most-popular baby names in Arizona are also popular nationally, according to the state. Olivia, Emma, Liam and Noah are consistently near the top everywhere.

DHS took a look back and found that things haven’t changed much.

The most popular names for Arizona girls 10 years ago were Sophia, Isabella, Emma, Mia and Olivia. For boys, the 2013 list included Liam, Noah, Jacob, Alexander and Daniel.

“For contrast, many of the names popular 30 years ago are much less popular today,” DHS officials said. “For girls, the top three names in 1993 were Jessica, Ashley and Samantha. Only Samantha appeared in the top 100 names of 2023 and landed at number 96 on the list.”

For boys, Michael, Christopher and Daniel were the most popular and while they are not as popular as they were in 1993, two of those (Christopher and Daniel) still appear in the top 100 baby names used today, according to Arizona records.
