Heat-associated deaths climb to 133 in Maricopa County

Deaths associated with the heat in Maricopa County increased by 44 in the past week, health officials said.

The total of heat-associated deaths has reached 133 since the beginning of the heat-surveillance season in May.

The Maricopa County Department of Public health reported that of the 133 deaths 72 were caused by the heat and 61 were “heat related.”

Officials said 341 deaths remain under investigation.

The heat season lasts into October.
