Health officials confirm 1st measles case in Pinal County

The Pinal County Public Health Services District has confirmed the first case of measles in the county, and it is associated with a person in federal custody.

“The overall risk to the community remains low at this time,” health officials stated in a release.

They noted, however, measles continues to spread in Arizona and in other states. The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 220 cases in Arizona for 2025.

The Pinal County Public Health Services District has confirmed the first case of measles in the county, and it is associated with a person in federal custody.

“The overall risk to the community remains low at this time,” health officials stated in a release.

They noted, however, measles continues to spread in Arizona and in other states. The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 220 cases in Arizona for 2025.

A case also was reported Jan. 16 involving a person at a theater in Gilbert.

Vaccination remains the most effective protection against measles, officials said.
