The Chandler City Council didn’t take many official actions at Thursday night’s meeting, but it took a pair of votes that could help shape its direction for the year ahead.
First-term council member O.D. Harris was chosen by his peers to serve as the 2024 vice mayor of the city. His term runs through the first two meetings of January 2025.
Initially, Mayor Kevin Hartke nominated second-term council member Mark Stewart to be vice mayor, with council member Christine Ellis seconding the motion. But with Stewart voting for himself and only Hartke and Ellis joining him, the motion failed, 4-3.
