I get it. It’s much easier on your knees and back to walk on the street than on the concrete sidewalks provided for pedestrians here at Sun City West.
But do you know that it’s actually a violation of Arizona traffic law to walk on the street when sidewalks are provided? Per Arizona law (Item A, Arizona Revised Statutes, § 28-796, “Pedestrians on roadways”): “If sidewalks are provided, a pedestrian shall not walk along and on an adjacent roadway.”
I also get that many people here in Sun City West (especially all of you speed-limit violators) don’t care about traffic laws here. So let’s make this about common courtesy and mutual respect for safety.
Sidewalks have been provided for pedestrian use and safety on all Sun City West streets. Please use them when an oncoming vehicle — yes, even a bicycle, tricycle, or golf cart — approaches. Step off the street and onto the sidewalk for a moment to let the vehicle or cyclist safely pass you by.
