Guns on campus bill puts Arizona college students at greater risk

OPINION — The Arizona Legislature is considering Senate Bill 1068, a bill to allow college students to carry guns on their college campuses.

Students are often 17 to 22 years old and have a set of unique factors while at college. They are usually away from home for the first time, therefore, have increased stress adjusting to their new independence.

Access to alcohol, drugs, pressures to succeed, new relationships, friendships, attempting to fit in, jealousy issues, self-esteem issues, etc. all add to a student’s vulnerability.
