Grocery store next to Pinnacle High gets OK from Phoenix Planning Commission

Controversial development goes to city council for final approval

The Phoenix Planning Commission last week recommended approval of a controversial shopping center next to Pinnacle High School in north Phoenix, believing the developer had made enough concessions to satisfy the community.

Final approval for three zoning changes to allow for the center, anchored by a grocery store, now goes to Phoenix City Council. The land is Arizona State Trust land, and the developer, Vestar, will need to purchase it at auction after the zoning changes are approved.

The developer and residents supporting the project say it will fill a hole of grocery stores servicing the area.
