Gregory "Greg" Charles Boynton, 78, passed away on November 18th after fighting pancreatic cancer. Though he spent most of his life living in Minnesota, he took his last breaths in Arizona.
Greg was born on January 26, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN. He was the first of six children born to Donald and Rosalie Boynton. He graduated from University High School in 1964 and went on to study at the University of Minnesota. Greg joined the U.S. Army Reserves and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on November 8, 1973, with the rank of 1st Lieutenant Military Police.
Greg’s career interests included selling life insurance, serving as a financial planner, and becoming an accountant. He started his own accounting firm in the 1970s as an LPA and became a CPA in 1995. He specialized in SubS Corporations and loved representing clients before the IRS. While he enjoyed his firm, he took on partners to assist with increased business. In 2001, Greg sold a portion of his company to Joni Craft and relocated to Warroad, MN to pursue new clients in semi-retirement. But Greg never truly retired, he found enjoyment working with his clients, often becoming close friends as well.
Greg was married to Nancy from 1969-1983 and they had two children, Lisa (1975) and Scott (1980). He later met Jan, and they married on March 2, 1984, on a small airplane over the Twin Cities. They went on to raise a blended family including Steve (1961), Joy (1964), and Jackie (1971). They celebrated 40 years of marriage in 2024.
Greg was innovative and adventurous. In his early years he took up scuba diving and boating, which he continued throughout his life. He flew planes, enjoyed snowmobiling, and four wheeling as well. He was very mechanical, and he never ran into an engine he could not fix. Greg also found enjoyment playing cards and golfing with friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, eager to live and learn about nature and the world around him.
Although Greg is gone, he will live in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife Jan(ice) Boynton; his children, Lisa Boynton and husband Jeff, and Scott Boynton and wife Lindsi; stepchildren, Joy Vinson and husband Don, Jackie Votapek and husband John; grandchildren, Alicia Franco and Alexandra (Joe) O’Neill, Maya and Ella Votapek, Samuel, Zachary, Madeline, and Jacob Boynton; siblings Richard Boynton and wife Joni, Kevin Boynton and Debra, John Boynton and wife Jeanette, Katie Bennis and husband Tom. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Rosalie Boynton; his sister, Beth Killeen; and stepson, Steve Boynton.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Research [lustgarten.org] in Greg’s name. Cards can be sent to Jan Boynton, P.O. Box 4200, Apache Junction, AZ 85178.
