Join Scottsdale's Greasepaint Youtheatre as it presents the Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast” from Dec. 9 to 18.

The stage musical, based on the 1991 film of the same name, which was in turn adapted from the French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, tells the story of a prince who is transformed into a hideous beast as punishment for his cruel and selfish ways, and an adventurous young woman named Belle whom he imprisons in his castle, a press release stated.

In order to become human again, the Beast must earn Belle’s love before it’s too late.

“Beauty and the Beast” had a stellar debut on Broadway, running for 5,461 performances, winning nine Tony Awards and ranking as one of the longest-running and highest-grossing shows of all time, the release added.

Greasepaint’s production of the show will be directed by Dale Nakagawa accompanied by Dylan Stucki as music director and Cate Carlino as choreographer. The production's cast includes Carson Hayes playing the titular Beast and Macy Bonnett starring as Belle.

Performances are scheduled for weekends. Showtimes vary with Friday and Saturday shows slotted for 7 p.m. and Sunday shows at 2 p.m. The shows will take place at the historic Stagebrush Theatre.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through the theater’s box office at 480-949-7529 or at www.greasepaint.org
