Gray: Opportunity awaits on SCHOA board

Most of our greatest blessings in life only come to us after we make a commitment. We see that in our marriages, our children, a job we work at and turn it into a career. First, we must see the value in it, then we must make the commitment.

Shortly after we moved to Sun City, I started reading about the need for people willing to volunteer to serve on the board of the Sun City Homeowner’s Association. We had already joined as members because I knew how important the organization was to our community. I had started a new business, working part-time, so I did have the time to serve so I decided to pick up a candidate packet and run for the board. I joke that I easily won because there were four positions open and four candidates. But it was one of the best decisions I have made in Sun City.

It was a rewarding and impactful experience for various reasons. As a board member, you have the opportunity to influence the direction and decisions of an organization you care about deeply and benefit your whole community. By contributing your skills, expertise, and time, you can actively work to make a positive impact for Sun City.

Whether you are skilled in finance, marketing, legal matters, strategy, or any other area, your contributions can make a significant difference to the success of the organization and our community.

I can say, after serving on the board and being termed out several times, the best part of serving is the great people you get to work with. We have some fantastic people who have contributed a great deal to making our community better and I would not have gotten to know them if I hadn’t made the commitment to step out and run for a board position.

There is a great opportunity awaiting you, and from the experience I have had serving on the SCHOA board, I believe you may also discover what a blessing it is to make a commitment to run for the board. I think you will find the same rewards I found.
