At Discover Mercantile, shoppers will find an eclectic mix of new and pre-loved items. Beyond clothing, the store boasts an array of vintage and modern artwork, home decor, and even quirky gifts like stickers and keychains, hand-poured candles, reusable shopping bags, tumblers and more.
Discover Mercantile invites the community to embrace the idea of circular fashion, which is all about giving clothes a second chance and keeping them out of landfills. With their unique buyback program, you can turn your gently used items into store credit or cash, making a positive impact on the environment while earning a little extra for yourself. The great part about their buyback program is that they do not sift through each item to accept or reject in front of others. Simply come with your clothes, ensure they are gently used and in good condition, and they will buy them or give store credit while items remain in the bag, with no embarrassing rejection for your clothes. What they cannot use is given to small local non-profits they partner with to help them meet their needs.
For Heidi, thrifting isn’t just shopping; it’s a family tradition. Frequenting yard sales and estate sales with her late mother is a special memory from her younger years and helped hone her knack for finding “treasures.” Meanwhile, one of Natasha’s favorite pastimes is wandering the clothing aisles of secondhand stores, searching for outfits to keep her wardrobe fresh without creating more textile waste. The duo's shared commitment to sustainable living, along with their love of the “hunt”, led to transforming their passions into Discover Mercantile. Deepened by learning about the detrimental effects of fast fashion on our environment and public health. Together, they've chosen to act, creating a store that embodies their love for unique finds and their respect for the planet.
"We're beyond excited to share our store with the community," says Natasha. "In America alone, an estimated 11.3 million tons of textile waste end up in landfills each year. Thrifting is still not mainstream, and we hope to reduce the stigma that can surround secondhand items. Things don’t need to be ‘new’ to be fabulous.”
