Grand jury indicts West Valley man in Surprise ICE property fire

A 19-year-old Avondale man has been taken into custody after being indicted on an allegation he set fire to a Surprise building owned by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, authorities said this week.

Gabriel Mendoza-Acoltzi was indicted on charges of malicious damage to federal property and willful depredation against property of the United States, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Arizona district.

Court documents stated Mendoza-Acoltzi broke a window and attempted to light the building on fire just after 1 a.m. on Feb. 21.
