GPS could have saved life of elderly missing Florence man

What should have been a 10-mile drive turned into a fatal 200-mile odyssey for a 91-year-old Florence resident.

George Thompson Robertson left his home at 9 a.m.  Sept. 23 to go to a pharmacy in Coolidge and have lunch with some friends. He never made it.

Late last month, his remains were found about a mile-and-a-half from where his car had been stranded in a wash about 10-15 miles south off the Interstate 10 West headed toward California. Robertson’s cause of death has not yet been determined.
