Government shutdown could hurt March travel numbers, Phoenix Sky Harbor's busiest month

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport suffered a dip in passengers during the federal government shutdown last fall. That could be a bad sign for March, normally the busiest month for the airport, during the current partial government shutdown.

Aviation staff isn't expecting March's passenger numbers to be finalized until mid- to late-April.

The federal government shutdown last year, the longest in history at 43 days, lasted from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12. Despite affecting all of October and less than half of November, the data shows that November was affected more heavily.
