GOP senators: Governor vetoed a chance to make Arizona more affordable

OPINION — In the first week of this year’s legislative session, Arizona lawmakers delivered a proposal we believed would make a meaningful difference for families and job creators across our state: a $1.1 billion tax cut package designed to help people better manage the cost of living.

For years, Arizonans have felt the squeeze. Many families are still working to recover from a period of high inflation that drove up the cost of groceries, childcare, housing, utilities and other everyday necessities. This legislation was built around a simple idea most people agree on: when budgets are tight, government should not take more than it needs, and taxpayers deserve clarity, fairness and predictability.

Our plan would have aligned Arizona’s tax code with recent federal changes, making filing simpler and more consistent for families and small businesses.
