Queen Creek has agreed to enter into a licensing agreement with Google Fiber Arizona that would allow the company to install fiber optic infrastructure within the town.
The Queen Creek Town Council unanimously voted in favor of entering the agreement at its Wednesday meeting. The agreement is still being finalized.
“This agreement is a result of your strategic efforts to encourage investments in technology infrastructure for the benefits of the town residents,” Queen Creek Assistant Town Manager Shea Joachim told the council. “Frankly speaking, I think Google Fiber's interest in the town is a function of the growth of course, but (also) the perspective of this town council to make sure that this town is open for business when it comes to technology infrastructure.”
