The city of Goodyear is partnering with Perfect Game on a use agreement for Goodyear Ballpark for tournaments and other baseball activities in the Phoenix metro area.

Perfect Game is a national baseball and softball platform and scouting service. Its mission is to help amateur players get exposure to the game and to take their skills to the next level. Perfect Game events allow some players to compete in front of college recruiters and professional scouts.

Thousands are expected to visit Goodyear in 26 Perfect Game tournaments and events. The schedule starts with a Memorial Day Classic, with more than 90 teams and 1,000 players from around the nation.

“This is a win-win for all involved and the city of Goodyear is excited to be entering into this partnership with Perfect Game,” said Mayor Joe Pizzillo in a statement. “We are pleased to know that the outstanding facilities at our Goodyear Ballpark are being utilized to discover and develop rising athletic talent.”

Perfect Game CEO Rob Ponger praised Goodyear's its events and services and recognized the city as a hotbed for athletes and fans.

“Perfect Game is excited to enter into this partnership with the city of Goodyear.  Goodyear, in particular, and the surrounding area, in general, are baseball and softball hotbeds, producing some of the most passionate athletes and fans of the sports,” he said. “We look forward to increasing our presence in the southwest, and Arizona has quickly become the hub of our activities in the region.”

Mayor Joe Pizzillo said he believes the tournaments will be a boon to the economy.

“This will be a tremendous driver for our local economy as Perfect Game has committed to the city of Goodyear, which provides a wonderful opportunity for the city to showcase all that we have to offer those who visit our community. We look forward to welcoming thousands of Perfect Games guests when they stay in our hotels, dine at our restaurants and shop locally, experiencing all that is Goodyear” he said.

More than 1,847 players who have played in a Perfect Game event have gone on to play Major League Baseball. Since 2003, 13,893 Perfect Game alumni have been selected in the MLB First-Year Amateur Player Draft, and in the 2022 Draft alone, more than 90% of all players selected had played in Perfect Game events.
