Applicants for the open spot must be current Goodyear residents and have lived in the city for at least two years. Applicants must be eligible to vote in city elections and are at least 21 years old or older.
If appointed, applicants cannot hold any other elected office or any other “incompatible public office,” according to the city’s website. Applicants are also expected to submit a resume and other supporting documents.
The exact process for appointing the new councilmember will be decided at a Jan. 10 council meeting, a city spokesperson told the Independent, but stated applicants will be interviewed by the council.
Two applications were filed as of Dec. 29.
The appointment term expires Dec. 31, 2022, and will be up for election on Aug. 2, 2022.
The spot on the seven-member council was left vacant after Joe Pizzillo relinquished his seat on the council to take over for Georgia Lord following her death on Dec. 12.
Pizzillo was sworn in as mayor Dec. 17 after a unanimous vote from fellow city councilmembers.
