Bullard Avenue reopened to regular traffic Monday, June 29, following a massive influx of drivers for the grand opening of the city’s new Buc-ee's travel center.
The busy thoroughfare, which had been closed to through traffic between McDowell Road and Interstate 10, returned to normal operations one week after the June 22 opening.
City officials had implemented a strict 6.5-mile traffic routing plan to manage a surge of up to 40,000 vehicles during the opening week. The event drew visitors from across Arizona and neighboring states, prompting the temporary closure of the eastbound I-10 off-ramp at Estrella Parkway and severe delays near Bullard Avenue.
