Goodyear prosecutor wants to clean up County Attorney’s Office

Former county prosecutor leads the Republicans in race to qualify for County Attorney special election

Goodyear city prosecutor Gina Godbehere wants to clean up the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

The veteran prosecutor, who worked at the County Attorney’s Office for 25 years before taking the job at Goodyear last March, is now close to qualifying for the ballot to replace Allister Adel who announced her resignation following numerous controversies surrounding her sobriety and record as a prosecutor.

Godbehere, 52, now leads her Republican opponents in the number of signatures collected — as of Monday, she had nearly 4,000 of the roughly 4,500 signatures needed to qualify for the Aug. 2 primary.
