Goodyear police launch investigation of evidence handling practices
A Goodyear investigation follows detective’s concerns in 2017 homicide case.

The Goodyear Police Department has initiated an independent investigation and external review of its property and evidence procedures after concerns were identified ahead of court proceedings in a 2017 homicide case.
According to a department statement, the lead detective on the case raised questions Jan. 14 regarding processes within the agency’s Property and Evidence unit while preparing for court. The department then requested an administrative investigation, which is being conducted by the Chandler Police Department.
