A man died Saturday night after he showed a gun during a chase with Goodyear police officers who fired their weapons, authorities said.

Officers were responding to reports of a stolen vehicle about 10:50 p.m. Oct. 18 and found it as it entered a parking lot on the southwest corner of Dysart Road and Van Buren Street, according to a release from the Goodyear Police Department.

“As officers approached, the driver exited the vehicle and began running northbound. Officers pursued on foot. During the chase, the suspect entered the roadway and produced a handgun. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the release stated.

Three officers discharged their weapons, and the suspect was detained. Officers provided medical aid, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, where a handgun was found, police said.

No officers were injured.

The West Valley Incident Response Team is conducting an investigation with the Peoria Police Department serving as the lead agency, the release stated.
