Goodyear officer fires shots at teen driver after altercation

Posted

Goodyear Police officers were involved in a shooting 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, which led to two children to be taken into custody.

Goodyear officers located a stolen vehicle in a neighborhood near Sarival Avenue and Van Buren Street. The officers attempted to stop the car and the driver, a 15-year-old boy, stopped in a cul-de-sac. The officers surrounded the vehicle and started telling the driver and passenger, a 13-year-old boy, to exit the car.

The passenger of the car got out and was taken into custody. Once the passenger was taken into custody, the driver drove the car in the direction of where the officers were standing when a Goodyear officer fired at the vehicle.

A vehicle pursuit ensued, which ended in the same neighborhood. The driver ran from the vehicle and was later taken into custody.

There were no reported injuries related to the shooting.
