Goodyear eyes federal funds to help residents avoid eviction

Local officials are considering using federal housing funds next year to help residents stay in their homes through eviction prevention services provided by a potential investment in a Goodyear-based nonprofit.

The city council reviewed a draft four-year Community Development Block Grant plan that would prioritize housing stability, tenant education, and home repairs for vulnerable households.

The program provides cities with annual federal funding to support housing, public services and neighborhood improvements for low- and moderate-income residents. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and must be spent under federal guidelines that limit how much can go toward administration and public services.
