Goodyear construction worker killed in trench collapse

A construction worker who died after becoming trapped in a trench on a job site in Goodyear has been identified as 44-year-old Ronald Andrew Baquero Jr., according to the Goodyear Police Department.
The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. on Monday, July 28, near 183rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. Emergency responders from the Goodyear Police and Fire departments were dispatched to the scene after reports of a worker trapped during an active construction operation.
Officers secured the area while fire crews and other emergency personnel conducted rescue operations, which extended into the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 29. Despite those efforts, Baquero was pronounced dead.

“The Goodyear Police Department remains on scene throughout the recovery operation,” stated Mayra Reeson, public information officer for the Goodyear Police Department. “We join the Goodyear Fire Department in extending our sincere condolences to the worker’s loved ones during this tragic time.”
Reeson said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing and being conducted in collaboration with other relevant agencies.
