Goodyear is looking to have a new city manager on board in 2026.

A city council subcommittee will convene at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, inside City Hall. The panel will review search firm proposals and form a recommendation to prepare for the upcoming retirement of City Manager Wynette Reed.

Reed, who has helped to lead the city since February 2023, will retire March 6, 2026, the city announced this week. Her retirement will conclude a 39-year career in public service, including more than a decade with Goodyear.

“It has been my deepest honor to serve as city manager for this great city,” Reed said in a statement, crediting city leadership, staff and residents for supporting the city’s rapid growth.

Under her direction, Goodyear was recognized as one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation.

According to Census data released in May of this year, from July 1, 2023 to July 1, 2024, Goodyear grew by 6,029 people, at a rate of almost 17 people per day moving to the Southwest Valley city.

Reed joined Goodyear in 2011 as human resources director before becoming deputy city manager in 2013. Her tenure has included oversight of every city department and leadership of major initiatives such as the development of GSQ, the city’s new downtown.

Mayor Joe Pizzillo praised Reed’s impact on the organization.

“She has been pivotal in leading our team, and we couldn’t have done it without her or the incredible team she has built,” he said.

Before coming to Arizona, Reed worked in human resources roles in Colorado and later served as HR director in Peoria.
