The Goodyear city council approved an intergovernmental agreement on Monday to use and refer troubled veterans to a West Valley veterans court.
The one-year agreement allows Goodyear municipal court to send veterans entering the criminal justice system to a specialized court that facilitates treatment for a veteran's unique needs. The court may also accept repeat offenders.
West Valley Regional Veterans Court is a collaborative body that includes the prosecutor, defense counsel, judges, community-based organizations, and sometimes the Veteran Affairs to rehabilitate and treat veterans with similar underlying issues.
