Goodyear aims for more development at former mall site

The Goodyear Planning and Zoning Commission lat week approved a rezoning request that could bring in big development with housing, offices, and restaurants in Estrella Falls.

Christian M. Williams, principal planner for Goodyear presented the request of Globe Management Corp. to the commission on Feb. 15 to consider rezoning about 152 acres located along McDowell Road west of Bullard Avenue, east of 150th Drive, north of Interstate 10 and south of Encanto Boulevard.

This chunk of land was zoned for planned regional center planned area development and was going to be the site of a Macerich-developed regional shopping center. Those plans were scuttled amid the Great Recession, and now that Globe owns the property the company is seeking more development on the property.
