Goncalves: Stop feeding the wild birds

Why do some people in Sun City West insist on feeding wild birds? There are no severe winters here with snow and freezing temperatures. Nature provides them with the ability to survive.

Unfortunately, we have a neighbor who has several bird feeders in his yard, which adjoins ours. We have constant activity with birds flying in including pigeons, which are flying rats. The birds are constantly coming into our yard, and I cannot sit on my patio in peace and quiet without being disturbed by the constant activity. Also, any bird feed on the ground invites roof rats.

Just research the negative effects of feeding birds and you will find out that amongst other things bird feeders can fuel the spread of avian diseases, alter migratory behavior and many other negative effects.

I know I am not the only resident here who has a problem with neighbors who have bird feeders. There has to be some CC&R that addresses this terrible problem.
