The Sun Cities are a golf rich environment.
Between the two age-restricted communities there are 15 recreation center-owned golf courses and five country clubs that include golf courses. While that was a major draw for the Sun Cities in the 1960s through the 1990s when golf remained popular for retirees, there has been discussion of repurposing some of the community courses. Golf popularity among seniors is declining throughout the country as baby boomers and millenials begin to move into retirement communities.
Sun City resident Don Schordje pointed out the decline of golf popularity during the Jan. 10 Recreation Centers of Sun City board meeting.
