Goldwater Institute files suit to block Scottsdale parks funding ballot measure

An attempt to pass a sales tax to pay for up keep, services and capital improvement projects at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, the city’s 44 parks and WestWorld may die before it gets to the November ballot.

The Goldwater Institute, a conservative think tank, has filed a lawsuit in the Maricopa County Superior Court to keep the measure, known as protect and preserve, off the ballot.
The suit was filed on behalf of former Mayor Jim Lane, local activist Susan Wood and political activist Yvonne Cahill.
